Shelter, Housing, and Support

Novita has worked with the City’s Shelter, Housing and Support Division on a number of initiatives including:

• Coordination and design of the Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative (SCPI) Agency Forum with Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC)

• In response to the introduction of the Council’s Notification Protocol regarding shelter development, Novita was retained to design, facilitate and support staff in the implementation of community work regarding the location of emergency and transitional shelters in the City of Toronto

• Novita has worked with City politicians, City staff, community partners and neighbourhoods where shelters are to be located. A key focus of our work was to establish and facilitate highly charged and complex community advisory committees as shelters were developed and opened

• Coordination of the first National Symposium on Homelessness and Housing (1999), in partnership with the City of Toronto and the Canadian Federation of Municipalities
